A.C.E. Charter School

The A.C.E. (Academic and Communication Excellence) Charter School located at Central Florida Speech and Hearing Center is a special education preschool for children ages 3 thru 5 that have speech, language, and/or hearing difficulties. We opened our doors in the Fall, 2000.
The program used to teach our students is based on the Storybook-Based Curriculum in which themes are presented revolving around specific books. The emphasis of this curriculum is “learning through multiple exposures to the same concepts”: All activities throughout the school day, including art, snack, playtime, etc., are centered on one theme for the week and encompass all the language concepts inherent in that theme. For example, the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? is excellent for this curriculum because it allows various concepts, including colors, animals, senses, and actions, to be taught. Multiple exposures to the same concepts throughout the week provide a better opportunity for carryover of the targeted language skills.

The A.C.E. Charter School uses a team-based approach while working with the children. A full-time teacher, master’s level speech-language pathologist, and two paraprofessionals work together throughout the school day to provide an optimal learning environment for the children. A.C.E. currently has a maximum classroom capacity for 18 students, which allows for an excellent student-to-teacher ratio.

Applications are being accepted. If you would like more information, regarding the A.C.E. Charter School, please contact School Principal, L. Gay Ratcliff at (863) 686-3189.
