Fast ForWord has come to Central Florida Speech and Hearing Center
Fast ForWord is a program designed to aid children diagnosed with APD(Auditory Processing Disorder) or language disorders.
Fast ForWord benefits children who are experiencing:
- Difficulty with reading or spelling
- Have problems understanding and using language
- Have difficulty remembering or following oral instructions
- Appear to daydream in class
- Have unexplained behavior problems
- Ages ranging from 5 – 14
What is Fast ForWord?
Fast
ForWord is a method for rapidly building language skills necessary for
learning to read or becoming a better reader. The program combines
acoustically modified sound and integrative skills training with
research-based optimal learning conditions. On average, students with
language and reading problems make 1 to 2 year gains in their reading
and/or language skills after only 4 to 8 weeks of Fast ForWord training.
Fast ForWord improves language skills by combining patented CD-ROM and Internet technology with breakthroughs in neuroscience.
The
scientifically validated training is an advanced approach that moves
well beyond addressing the symptoms of language problems, and directly
attacks a root cause: the inability to perceive the quickly changing
sound elements of oral language.
How Does Fast ForWord teach phonological awareness?
Phonological
awareness begins with the general ability to attend to the sounds of
language and to recognize and use all sizes of sound units such as
words, syllables and phonemes. Fast ForWord exercises train
phonological skills by requiring active listening on the part of the
child, as well as decision making about the sounds that are heard.
Using
optimal learning techniques (intensity, frequency, adaptivity and
motivation) and acoustically modified sound, the exercises
simultaneously “cross-train” many phonological skills at one time for
rapid, secure learning.
