Hearing Services

Do you or someone you know have difficulty hearing or understanding speech? According to the National Institutes of Health, 17% of Americans have some degree of hearing loss. The Central Florida Speech and Hearing Center has been providing services to individuals with hearing loss in Polk and surrounding counties for 50 years. We offer the following services to individuals of all ages:

Diagnostic Testing

  • Comprehensive hearing tests
Our comprehensive hearing testing accounts for how all parts of the ear contribute to overall hearing and speech understanding.
  • Newborn hearing screening and testing
Early identification of hearing loss is critical. Our audiologists provide otoacoustic emissions (OAE) and/or auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing which complies with state and national guidelines.
  • (Central) Auditory processing testing
Auditory processing testing looks at hearing beyond the ears – in other words, what the brain does with the sounds it gets from the ears.

Hearing Aid Services

  • Hearing aid consultations
We carefully consider a patient’s hearing loss and needs to determine which hearing aid is the best choice. This consultation may occur following a hearing test or may be done separately for patients who have current hearing test results (less than 6 months old) obtained at our Center or another location.
  • Hearing aid fittings and programming
Our hearing aid fittings are tailored to the hearing test results and the needs of the patient. Sound measurements by an in-ear microphone are made to ensure that the programming of the hearing aids is matched specifically to the patient’s ear.
  • Hearing aid repairs
Many repairs, such as tube changes and ear mold modifications, may be done on-site; however, some repairs do require that the hearing aid be sent off-site.

Custom ear molds

We are able to take molds of the ears so that a variety of custom ear molds may be ordered for:

• Listening devices (such as earbud-style headphones, Bluetooth headsets, and stethoscopes)
